Annual Veteran Appreciation Dinner

To recognize the service and sacrifices that our veterans have endured, and as a part of our commitment to support our veterans, each year Heroes Today hosts the Annual Veteran Appreciation Dinner. Our very first dinner was on May 2, 2008 and was originally titled the "Homeless Veteran Dinner". The objective of this dinner is not only to show appreciation for the veterans we serve but to also connect them with resources that they are in need of that will empower them to succeed. During the dinner veterans are educated on the various services they are eligible for through the Department of Veteran Affairs and other organizations within the community that will help them.

Distressed Family

Family is the most important element in the recovery of our veterans. Wives or Husbands of Iraq/Afghanistan veterans have had to resign from employment in order to care for their injured loved one or maybe they have a spouse that is currently hospitalized as a result of injuries sustained in Iraq. Heroes Today has partnered with National organizations to address the issues within the families of our veterans.

Employment

Maintaining employment is very important to sustainability, it is for that reason Heroes Today partnered with CareerJet to offer veterans a career search engine on our website. We also continuously develop relationships with employers, the general public and service organizations within the communitiy in order to enhance networking opportunities for our veterans. We also facilitate a workshop that assists veterans with the design of a professional, skills, and accomplishment-oriented resume, using their military background, that is credible and attention gathering.

Intensive Homeless Veteran Outreach

In an effort to get our veterans of the street and into a program at the Department of Veteran Affairs, Heroes Today conducts an outreach to homeless veterans twice per month. This outreach is an intensive outreach because it is conducted after the hours of 8pm. By going to homeless shelters and throughout the streets of various communities. Upon making contact with the veteran we offer them information on the benefits they may qualify for and also an opportunity to get admitted into the local VA Hospital.
