As our country continues fighting the war on terror and with the increase of soldiers currently being deployed to Afghanistan, it is beneficial to have an organization that is positioned to assertively support not only our veterans and currently serving soldiers, but their families as well. Our new Heroes are facing more battles than ever after leaving the actual battle field in Iraq/Afghanistan. According to a story published by the Army Times dated September 12, 2009, there are approximately 185,000 veterans in the United States that are from the Iraq/Afghanistan war without employment. That means that currently there are more veterans in the United States that are from the Iraq/Afghanistan war without employment than there are soldiers on the ground right now fighting the war.
Self-medicating by using mood altering substances is becoming a way of life for these veterans in an effort to cope with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder(PTSD) symptoms, Depression and current situations and issues within their life.
With your help the organization will continue to be instrumental to the empowerment of our veterans and their families by continuing programs such as:
Veteran Career Empowerment Series, assisting veterans in job placement, life skills and becoming an entrepreneur.
Distressed Families of Iraq/Afghanistan Veterans Program, providing support to the families of veterans who are also making sacrifices for the country
Intensive Homeless Veteran Outreach, interacting with the existing homeless veteran population and connecting them with immediate and long-term resources
Annual Veteran Appreciation Dinner, recognizing those who have served our country and fought for our freedoms
Iraq/Afghanistan Peer-to-Peer Support, partnering with Vets4Vets, offering hands-on assistance and establishing strong relationships
Annual Winter Clothing Drive, helping to provide the basic and vital necessity of proper clothing for the winter climate of our area
Our slogan "Helping Soldiers Fight the War Against Homelessness" is our commitment to changing the lives of veterans in need. You can help us to continue serving those that gave so much to defend this great country by providing a small donation. Donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law, and your thoughtfulness will let every veteran know just how much you support their efforts.
Thank you for your generous support.
